Gustine man in custody for allegedly killing his girlfriend

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A North Valley woman is dead, and a man who lived with her is now facing murder charges.

Gustine Police arrested 46-year-old David Franklin on Friday. Investigators say Franklin called to report what he described as the suicide-hanging of his girlfriend, 34-year-old Misty Garcia on Friday morning. But detectives said his statements didn't add up.

Police have been called to the home where the two live before. "Overall the neighborhood is pretty quiet, but we have had calls to their house throughout the year for domestic violence," said Gunstine Police Chief Doug Dunford.

Franklin is currently being held at the Merced County Jail without bail.
