PORTERVILLE, Calif. (KFSN) -- The Tulare County Sheriff's Office arrested two men at a property on Date near Leggett in Porterville Sunday afternoon -- after they allegedly tied a horse to a flatbed trailer, and then beat it in the head with a sledge hammer.

When deputies arrived, the horse was still alive, but was so badly injured that it had to be euthanized.
Maximo Rodriguez, 59, and Martin Padilla, 50, were arrested on animal cruelty charges.
