Merced County teacher-student sex case continued

MERCED COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- Melody Carter-McCabe appeared in a Merced County courtroom Tuesday afternoon.

Melody Carter-McCabe sat in jail in a yellow jumpsuit and listened while a Merced County judge continued her case until next week.

Court documents state the entire investigation started at Livingston High School when a principal called the sheriff's department -- rumors were running rampant about the teacher and one of her FFA students.

Investigators discovered the then 15-year-old started "hanging out" with his teacher in September of 2010. He went to her house and told deputies the two kissed in her front yard.

Their relationship soon escalated to sex, which according to the sheriff's report happened over 50 times. But then in August of 2011, McCabe and the teenager agreed to break it off. Court documents state their break up had to do with their age difference.

Deputies found pornographic pictures of the teacher on the teen's phone. A search of her house matched specific descriptions the boy had given police.

They even discovered love letters, they searched the teacher's room at Livingston High, and after seizing her computer, phone and those letters, they charged McCabe with nine counts of unlawful sex.

The Livingston School superintendent tells Action News the teacher is on paid administrative leave.

McCabe's bond hearing was moved to next Monday.
