FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Fresno County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a near-drowning Sunday night. The incident happened at Skaggs Bridge County Park west of Fresno.
The Fresno County Sheriff's Office tells Action News a 48-year-old man was pulled from the San Joaquin River. They say several bystanders pulled the man out of the water.
The man was swimming near the bridge's pillars when he went under the water and did not resurface.
It took about 10 minutes for witnesses to find the man, pull him out of the water and begin CPR. When paramedics showed up they took over CPR efforts.
The man was still unresponsive when he was flown to Community Regional Medical Center in Downtown Fresno.
Sheriff's officials say the man and his family were at Skaggs Bridge Park for awhile Sunday. Witnesses told deputies the man had been drinking alcohol before he went into the water.
The condition of the 48-year-old man has not been released, and sheriff's officials want to remind everyone that drinking alcohol and swimming, especially in rivers, and on a day with temperatures above 100 degrees is extremely dangerous.
