Man asking for scrap metal was shot in Fowler

One man is in the hospital after a shooting that took place in Fowler.

The Fresno County Sheriff's Office was called to a home near Temperance and Dinuba at about 8:30 Tuesday morning.

Investigators say a man and a woman drove onto a property looking for scrap metal. After a heated exchange, the home owners asked them to leave.

Detectives say one of the home owners fired shots after he claims, he was scared the driver would run him over.

Neighbors say they've recently experienced strangers looking for scrap metal in the area. This one time they probably thought I wasn't home and as soon as they saw I was they ran back into the truck, they had a funny look about them."

Investigators have not released the name of the man who was shot. He is expected to survive.
