Madera animals receive low-cost vaccinations

Saturday, July 07, 2012

Hundreds of Madera animals are better protected against illness after a vaccination clinic in Madera on Saturday.

Between three and five hundred animals got shots during this low-cost clinic at the Madera District Fairgrounds.

During the monthly events rabies shots are just $6 and parvo/distemper shots are $12.

The director of the Madera County Animal Shelter says the monthly clinics have been going on for several years and the efforts are working.

"We saw a lot of parvo and distemper and bad sicknesses coming in to the shelter in the years past. As we've been doing these vaccination clinics, we're seeing less and less of that," Kirsten Gross, director of the Madera County Animal Shelter, said.

Gross says the summer months bring an increased risk for the spread of disease.

If you missed Saturday's clinic, another will be held on the first Saturday of August.
