FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Officials are investigating two separate but suspicious fires that sparked Sunday night in Madera County.
The first fire was at Johnny's Market on Road 29 near Desha Street. The other fire was a car fire, spotted on Desha near Parksdale.
Cal Fire investigators are still trying to piece together exactly what happened, but they're calling both fires suspicious.
Both of the fires happened around 11:15 Sunday night within a quarter mile of each other. A passerby saw the fire on Road 29 and Desha Street and alerted authorities. When firefighters arrived, they found Johnny's market on fire. They also found one of the window's broken and believe that is where the fire started. No one hurt in the fire, but a resident who lived in back of the market was evacuated as a precaution.
Fire officials are also responded to a vehicle fire about a quarter of mile down the street at the same time.
"It's a suspicious fire. It was obviously set and with the vehicle fire just down the street, it's very suspicious," said Glenda Leonard, Cal Fire.
Firefighters were able to put out the fire at the market within 15 minutes and were able to extinguish the vehicle fire quickly as well.
At this time, it's unknown how much damage the fire caused to the structure. Both fires are still under investigation by Cal Fire.
