Parlier Police shoot 2 suspects near Kingsburg after chase

Sunday, August 11, 2013

An investigation is underway after Parlier Police officers opened fire on two men.

Police say it started with a traffic stop around 7 p.m. Sunday night. During the stop, authorities discovered the driver had a suspended license and an extensive criminal history. He then led police on a chase that ended near Kingsburg along Boston Avenue and Road 8 -- near the Fresno - Tulare County lines. That's when both sides exchanged gunfire.

Normally when we get a vehicle pursuit in the City of Parlier, they will flee towards the county, down the dirt roads, down the dark roads, the side roads because it's easy to lose a tail if you're being followed in pursuit," said David Cerda, Parlier Police Chief.

Both the driver and his passenger were hit, but they are expected to survive. The two Parlier officers involved in the shooting are now on paid administrative leave. Charges on the suspects are pending.
