Norwalk school in Chris Dorner's manifesto closes for safety

NORWALK, Calif. -- A local school that suspected murderer Christopher Dorner attended is closing its doors for the rest of the week. Dorner mentioned the school in his manifesto, claiming he was racially bullied and abused there.

"My first recollection of racism was in the first grade at Norwalk Christian elementary school in Norwalk," Dorner wrote in the manifesto.

He said a fellow student called him the n-word on the playground. Norwalk sheriff's deputies were seen setting up post at the school on Thursday. It is unknown when the school will reopen.

Los Angeles County Sherriff Lee Baca said the mention of the school in the manifesto gives them great concern, especially because of the uncertainty of the situation.

Authorities are still searching for Dorner, who is suspected of fatally shooting one Riverside police officer, and wounding another, while also allegedly shooting an LAPD officer in Corona Thursday. He is also wanted in connection with a double murder in Irvine.

Just up the street from Norwalk Christian School, residents say they are on edge.

"The connection of him coming to the school here...it's a little scary to think that he could be around here," said Steve Lopez of Norwalk. "For all we know, he's still here, he came back to his hometown. So yea, I'm a little spooked by that."
