History of KFSN-TV

On May 10, 1956, the ancestor of what was to become KFSN-TV ABC30 began its television service to Fresno and the San Joaquin Valley. In 1971, the station was purchased by Capital Cities, Inc. Today, ABC30, a Disney Company, is the most watched television station in the Central Valley with more than 30 years of leading news ratings, and abc30.com is the number one local television news website.* ABC30 also ranks as most popular among local TV stations across all mobile platforms with its iPhone and Android apps. Plus, Action News is the only local TV news with a dedicated iPad app. More Valley viewers get their news and entertainment from ABC30 than from any other source.

ABC30's programming reflects its commitment to be responsive to the local community. Action News, winner of the prestigious Edward R. Murrow award for best newscast, has long attracted the largest audiences by providing reports and special series that make a difference to our community. Action News can be seen weekdays from 4:30 a.m. to 7 a.m., 11 a.m., 4 p.m., 5 p.m., 6 p.m., 6:30 p.m., and 11 p.m. Action News at 5 p.m. frequently attracts more viewers than other local newscasts combined. On the weekends, Action News can be seen Saturday and Sunday at 6 a.m., 8 a.m., 6 p.m., and 11 p.m.

ABC30 Action News serves the counties of Fresno, Tulare, Kings, Madera, Merced, and Mariposa with extensive, reliable, and credible local news coverage. On April 23, 2007, Action News debuted a high-definition (HD) news set and became the first television station in Central California to air all of its news broadcasts in HD.

ABC30's weekday morning lineup includes ABC's "Good Morning America" followed by one of the most entertaining hours on daytime television, "LIVE! with Kelly and Michael" at 9 a.m. Next, the ladies of "The View" take to the airwaves with their must-see commentary at 10 a.m. In the afternoon, "The Dr. Oz Show" airs at 2 p.m., followed by "Katie" at 3 p.m. At 7 p.m., "Jeopardy" exercises your mind, and at 7:30 p.m., viewers play along with Pat and Vanna in the nation's most popular game show, "Wheel of Fortune." After Action News at 11 p.m., ABC's "Nightline" continues the ratings dominance, followed by "Jimmy Kimmel Live" at 12 a.m.

ABC30 also broadcasts The Live Well Network on its second and third digital channels, 30.2 and 30.3 over the air, and Comcast channels 193, 209 and 709 (HD). The Live Well Network inspires and entertains women across America by connecting to heads and hearts across a range of real world joys and concerns. Programming focuses on five categories including travel, advice, home, food, and lifestyle. "Motion," one of Live Well's most successful shows, is created and produced right in our own backyard.

ABC30 also plays an important role for ABC's owned television stations by serving as the central ingest hub for the Live Well Network. ABC30 processes internet and television advertising commercials, syndicated and paid programs, and syndicated promotion tagging for the group. Rebecca Campbell, President of ABC's Owned Television Stations, says, "KFSN serves a specific strategic purpose for the ABC owned television station group, acting as the technology hub, where research and testing of new technology is conducted that then can be rolled out to the rest of the stations."

KFSN-TV is the Central Valley's acknowledged community affairs leader. ABC30's Children First community service campaign is a total station commitment that tackles the challenges and problems facing our kids with a concentration on how the average person can help to make a difference in a child's life. ABC30 partners with the Educational Employees Credit Union, Children's Hospital Central California, and the Fresno County Office of Education to ensure the success of Children First. The station also televises special broadcasts for Children's Hospital Central California. ABC30 has helped raise money and awareness for projects like Kids Day, Exceptional Parents Unlimited, Marjaree Mason Center for Battered Women and Children, Toys for Tots, Central California Women's Conference, Central California Blood Center, Honored Scholars, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central California, and the Fresno Historical Society.

For more than 50 years, ABC30 continues to serve California's Central Valley. Current General Manager Dan Adams, who joined KFSN in February 2009, says, "ABC30 is committed to providing the viewers of the Central Valley with the best coverage of the news they need, whenever they need it and wherever they are."
