President Barack Obama is making history once again, this time by nominating the honorable Sonia Sotomayor to the United States Supreme Court. If confirmed, she would become the first Latina to sit on the bench. The nomination is being received with excitement by many in the Valley's legal community, especially a Fresno County judge who made history herself over a decade ago.

Students from upward bound are recognized during a graduation ceremony. Upward bound is a federally funded program that helps students stay in school and encourages them to pursue a higher education.
