Cecilia Vega is the newest member of the ABC7 team. After nearly 10 years as a newspaper reporter, Cecilia joined ABC7 in September, 2008. She covers the East Bay and is based in the Oakland bureau.
Prior to joining ABC7, Cecilia was a reporter for the San Francisco Chronicle, where she worked as a political reporter covering San Francisco City Hall and broke numerous stories about Mayor Gavin Newsom's administration.
Cecilia also was a reporter for the Press Democrat in Santa Rosa and the San Bernardino Sun. She has held fellowships at the Poynter Institute and the New York Times.
Cecilia has received numerous awards for her newspaper reporting, including from the California Newspaper Publishers Association for a story she wrote about American Taliban John Walker Lindh, from the East Bay Press Club for overall beat reporting on San Francisco City Hall, and from the New York Times for her coverage of the first anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
She holds a Bachelor's Degree in French and print journalism from American University in Washington, D.C. She also studied at the Sorbonne University in Paris.
Cecilia is a member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, the California Chicano News Media Association and Investigative Reporters and Editors.
An East Bay native, Cecilia is glad to be back covering the community where she was raised. When she's not working, she enjoys traveling with her husband -- especially through Mexico.
