Nick Smith joined ABC7 in February 2007, and contributes to both The View from the Bay and the ABC7 News team.
Nick is also Host of the hit summer reality show American Inventor on the ABC Network.
Nick is no stranger to the Bay Area: he is a graduate of University of California, Berkeley, has family in Sonoma County and is thrilled once again to call NorCal home!
Nick's introduction to television has been anything but traditional. While serving in the United States Army in Germany, Nick worked with a team to create various training videos. Upon completion of his service, Nick attended Santa Rosa Junior College where, through the guidance of three dynamic instructors, he discovered the world of Speech and Forensics. His interest in debate would eventually lead him to CAL and on to Emerson College in Boston for his graduate studies. While working toward his Master's degree, Nick worked as a photographer/truck operator for WPRI in Providence, RI.
Prior to his return to the Bay Area, Nick anchored a local morning news program in Philadelphia, and provided live coverage of special interest stories in his own segment, "Nick in the Neighborhood." Appropriately, Nick has been a live reporter for the Army/Navy game, traditionally held in Philadelphia. He has also worked as a reporter for E! Entertainment Television, and his live reporting has appeared on the FOX News Channel, the Weather Channel, World News Now, Live! With Regis and Kelly, and World News Tonight with Peter Jennings.
Nick is an avid reader of fiction and a huge fan of the television shows Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel, 60 Minutes, and The Shield.
