Missing girl contacts SF police

Monday, September 29, 2008

A 12-year-old San Francisco girl who was reported missing over the weekend has contacted police and appears to be OK, San Francisco police Sgt. Neville Gittens said.

Dyhemia Young, whose nickname is Malaysia, had last been seen around 6 p.m. Saturday near Page and Buchanan streets.

Police were concerned for the safety of the girl, a student at KIPP San Francisco Bay Academy who lives in the Bayview District.

But Gittens said this morning that Young contacted a police investigator Sunday night.

"She says she's OK," Gittens said. "Hopefully by the end of the day we will have made face-to-face contact.

Police now consider Young to be a runaway.
