San Jose State student found dead in dorm room

Monday, February 10, 2014

Police are investigating the death of a young, popular teenager with his whole life ahead of him. The body of San Jose State University freshman Brenden Tiggs was discovered in his dorm room Sunday afternoon.

Tiggs lived on the fourth floor of Joe West Hall. Students have set up a candlelight memorial in his honor. Campus police discovered his body after friends expressed concern about his whereabouts.

"He was always so happy and I love you Brenden. I will always love you," said Tigg's girlfriend, who couldn't fight back the tears.

Hundreds gathered on campus to remember the San Jose State freshman, who was found unresponsive in his dorm room on Sunday. Friends were stunned.

"He's just one of the sweetest people I've ever met. He's super protective and we're really close and I'm just going to miss him," said Llorna Tufuli, a friend of Tiggs.

San Jose State University officials say campus police went to Tiggs' room after friends reported him missing. The coroner has yet to determine the cause of death.

Tiggs graduated last spring from St. Ignatius College Prep in San Francisco where he played football. Several of his high school friends shared their fond memories of him.

The coroner says it could have some information on Tiggs' death as early as Tuesday -- answers that for his family and friends can't come soon enough.
