Wednesday, November 04, 2009

With many new credit card companies closing accounts without warning, many consumers are left hunting for new cards on short notice. Sometimes they get in on lousy deals.

On Wednesday, the Federal Trade Commission sued one such company -- Low Pay Incorporated. It is advertised as a regular credit card, but it turns out consumers can only use it to buy items in Low Pay online catalog.

Often consumers say they didn't understand that until after they had already paid $397 in fees to activate, process, and maintain the card.

7 On Your Side's attempts to reach Low Pay were unsuccessful, but the company has agreed to return a $120 activation fee to anyone who agrees to return the card.
