'Pringles' not considered a potato chip

Tuesday, July 08, 2008

Britain's highest court ruled that Pringles chips are not a potato snack, and therefore isn't taxable under British regulations.

'Pringles' just got a bit cheaper in the United Kingdom.

Britain's highest court ruled that Pringles chips are not a potato snack, and therefore isn't taxable under British regulations.

It's no small tariff. There's a 17 and a half percent tax on potato crisps, sticks and puffs made that are made from potato, potato flour, or potato starch.

The court said Pringles is exempt because its just 42 percent potato, most of the rest is rice flour.
