South Bay educators worry about more cuts

Thursday, November 19, 2009

South Bay educators, parents and others launched a preemptive strike Thursday against potential cuts to California's public school system.

"We are here today to urge the governor and the Legislature to find ways to protect our students from further budget cuts," said Donnell Fassler with the California School Employees Association.

Members of the Santa Clara County Education Coalition say California schools cannot bear the brunt of any more cuts.

They say the $17 billion cut over the last two years has resulted in increased class sizes, fewer teachers and support staff.

They believe closing tax loopholes and raising revenue is the only way to save schools from another round of devastating cuts.
