Students may see another tuition increase

Monday, July 11, 2011

Public university students in California are expected to face another tuition hike after school officials meet.

The board of trustees for the California State University system will vote Tuesday on a 12 percent hike for the fall semester.

If the tuition hike is approved, students would be paying $1,200 more than they were two years ago.

University of California students face a 9.6 percent hike if the board of regents approves their proposed increase on Thursday.

It would be the ninth fee increase in eight years.

Both university systems say the hikes are necessary to help offset cuts in the new state budget.
