Bouquets To Art on display through Sunday

Tuesday, March 13, 2012

One of the most popular exhibitions at the De Young Museum in Golden Gate Park has opened, but it only runs through this Saturday. It is Bouquets To Art, where works in the galleries inspire floral design.

It offers a floral perspective of great classical works and the world famous African art and sometimes just a touch of whimsy. The De Young Museum is noted for its permanent collections, but this week it's all about interpretation.

The 28th Bouquets To Art shows off designs from 150 floral artists who pay tribute and draw inspiration from the works. Like the 1884 painting "A Dining Table At Night." In the brilliant floral version, the emphasis is on the table setting. Sometimes the work is quite literal; the painting of a tulip culture comes alive in the floral artist impression. A Georgia O'Keefe on canvas can also be found on display on a stand. A painting of a woman is so elegantly transformed, desert sand roses give it a texture of age and style.

Designers submit portfolios, choices and concepts to a panel of judges who take months narrowing the list of exhibitors. They are always looking for something special.

Bouquets to Art is up until Saturday evening.
