The Food and Drug Administration is warning that a common anesthetic found in teething gels can be dangerous to babies and in extreme cases, even deadly. It's called Benzocain, and the FDA says it's linked to a blood disorder called Methemoglobinemia.

Benzocaine is found in products including Anbesol, Orajel, Baby Orajel, and Orabase.

There have been 29 reported cases of Methemoglobinemia which leads to oxygen deprivation since it first came under FDA scrutiny in 2006 - most of them in children under two.
