Nov. 1 (KGO) -- If you drive through Marin County, you know how steep some of the cliffs are, and how dangerous they might be if your car leaves the road. Yesterday, a Nicasio man spent seven hours waiting for help after his car fell plunged down a ravine. As it turns out he got help from the most loyal of friends, who you might say, was returning a favor.
There is simply no doubting the bonds that develop between dogs and their people -- between Michael Bosch of Nicasio, for instance, and his cocker spaniel named Honey. Yesterday, in the deep backwoods of Marin County, she took loyalty to another level.
If Michael Bosch had not spent the day in intensive care, he would have told about how the sun blinded him when backing out of his driveway yesterday morning. How his SUV plunged 30 feet into a ravine, turning upside down, trapping him, crushing his leg.
Tim Thompson, Marin County Fire Dept.: "It was crushed severely between the steering wheel, roof and dashboard."
The place is so remote that when Mr. Bosch went over the hill no one saw him, heard him or missed him. He was alone seven hours with the dog."
Somehow, Michael freed Honey from her kennel crate in back of the truck, and urged her to get help. Honey bushwacked half a mile through the woods to neighbor Robin Allen's house.
Robin Allen, neighbor: "She was bringing me here. She was directing me."
At the accident scene, Honey paced back and forth, pointing to the wrecked car below.
Robin called Marin fire rescue crews, who arrived within minutes, lifting Bosch to safety, and just in time because beyond the leg inury, his pulse had weakened.
It's a remarkable story, but there is one last part of it we've held back. Mr. Bosch and Honey have only been together two weeks. Before that, Honey had lived in a shelter at the Marin Humane Society. A dog, without a home.
Sheri Cardo, Marin Humane Society: "She was brought in by an owner who couldn't continue to care for her, couldn't afford her."
When Michael Bosch adopted Honey on November 14th, he probably knew she would change his life. But who could have guessed she would save it?
ABC7's Wayne Freedman: "So he rescued her?
Robin Allen: "Evidently, and she rescued him."
