Jan. 25- BCN -- There is an area in the Cupertino-Saratoga foothills where folks stroll with their dogs, ride horses and apparently jog naked.
Rudy Jurgensen of the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District said today that a free-spirited exercise enthusiast was cited on Jan. 9 while jogging in the Fremont Older Open Space Preserve.
The man was cited for being nude in public and released. He is expected to appear in court next month.
"I heard they saw my jogger," San Jose equestrian Maurya Ehret said, recounting her conversation this morning with staff at Garrod Farms Stable, where she boards her horse.
It was November 2005, on a Friday afternoon, she believes, when a naked man jogging in the preserve startled her.
"He must have been shyer then," Ehret said. "Because he turned and ran the other way."
The man startled her horse too. "She probably wondered where he kept his carrots," Ehret said.
Ehret has a couple of friends who have seen the white, middle-aged man since her sighting. One had a conversation with the man, warning him he could get in trouble, but he seemed not to care too much, Ehret said.
After each reported sighting, park rangers have notified the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office and increased patrols along the trails where the jogger has been seen, Jurgensen said.
"He's never been rude or scary," Ehret said of the nature buff. "Some people like that stuff, playing tennis nude, weird stuff like that."
Jurgensen said however many nudists might be jogging in the Fremont Older preserve, no one has ever been harassed, at least aside from aesthetically.
"There's more things to worry about than him," Ehret said.
Like poison ivy, perhaps.
