Jan. 31 - KGO (KGO) -- Rebecca Moore had a chance to get Al Gore's opinion on the San Jose Water Company's plan to log one thousand acres of its property near the Santa Clara/Santa Cruz County line. She lives near the proposed logging area and opposes the plan. Moore is also a Google Earth Software engineer.
When Al Gore visited Google last year, Moore says he asked her if Google Earth technology was being used for any environmental purposes. She told him of several applications including the logging battle in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Their communication continued after his visit and Gore ended up issuing a statement in opposition of the logging plan stating "This proposal is deeply flawed-the commercial logging of these trees simply makes no sense."
John Tang of San Jose Water Company said the company did contact a representative of Al Gore and invited the former Vice President to tour the watershed and get the Water Company's perspective on the Non-Industrial Timber Management Plan. Tang said Gore declined, citing a schedule that was too busy promoting his movie on global warming, An Inconvenient Truth.
Moore will unveil her Google Earth project on the logging plan at tonight's public hearing. You can view it yourself by clicking on the following link.
