Friday, February 09, 2007

Two people are dead this morning and two others injured after the driver of a stolen vehicle collided with a tree in Saratoga while attempting to flee from police.

Officer Steve Perea of the California Highway Patrol reports that at around 2:30 a.m. a reported stolen Saturn sedan carrying four men collided with a tree after losing control on the Saratoga Avenue off-ramp from northbound Interstate Highway 280.

Two passengers in the vehicle were killed and a third was transported to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center suffering major trauma to his head, Perea said. The driver was also transported to Valley Medical Center with minor injuries.

The Saratoga Avenue off-ramp from Highway 280 is likely to remain closed for several hours this morning as crews work to clear the accident and an investigation is conducted, Perea said.
