Prices At Gas Pump Skyrocket In S.F.

Monday, February 26, 2007

If you have to gas up before driving to work, get ready to pay -- big time. Prices at the pump are skyrocketing nationwide, with the highest price in San Francisco.

According to the Lundburg Survey, the average price at gas stations nationwide has jumped 13-cents a gallon in the past two weeks -- San Francisco has the honor of having the most expensive gas in the nation.

The Lundberg Survey says the average price of gas in San Francisco is $2.84. It must be the prices at the Arco stations that are bringing down that average, because just about everywhere else in town charges more than three-dollars for a gallon of gas.

Adell Bakhciarova, Vallejo: "If I'm anywhere, if I cross the bridge in Oakland, I try to get gas there. It's cheaper."

It pays to do even a little bit of comparison shopping. The Chevron station at Bay and Laguna charges $3.15 for regular gas. Three blocks away at the Lombard and Laguna Chevron, it's ten-cents cheaper.

Nationally, gas is eleven-cents higher than it was a year ago.

Drivers just shrug it off.

Adell Bakhciarova: "I have a big SUV that I drive. You know, you have to drive."

The price of oil has gone up -- that's partly to blame for these high prices. Expect for this trend to continue into March.
