May 13- KGO (KGO) -- A big crowd turned out Saturday night on the Embarcadero for the annual KaBoom concert and fireworks show. This was the first time there was a fee for admission, but that did not seem to keep people away.
Many people came out for one night of fun.
Ray Bruman, Berkeley resident: "It's the best fireworks show of the whole year, there's nothing to top it."
David Colton, fireworks fan: "That's what I came for, is the fireworks."
ABC7's Pamela Tom: "And you brought your grandkid?"
David Colton: "Well yes, he likes the music and I like the fireworks."
Fourteen years and running - Kaboom's evolved from a radio station publicity event to a San Francisco tradition.
Renee Richardson, KFOG morning personality: "The fireworks before the fog really rolls in for the season, it really has become a tradition because in July, it's so foggy around here, that this is the time to have a fireworks show."
And when doesn't live music create a crowd?
Bo Szkorotad, San Jose music fan: "Steve Winwood was here a few years ago, awesome. 'Train' a couple of years ago - the bands are always great."
Second in the KaBoom line up was 'Guster,' a band that's leading the way in green concerts.
Adam Gardner, "Guster" guitarist: "We help to coordinate bio-diesel fuelings for the buses and trucks, we offset every concert with renewable energy. Tonight's concert is powered by wind power which is really cool."
Plastic on street lights isn't too environmentally cool but the fixtures along the Embarcadero were wrapped up, ABC7 was told to keep the crowd from plastering them with stickers. San Francisco police were out checking for people getting too plastered.
Pat Kwan, San Francisco Police: "Your typical people who are overly drunk, can't take care of themselves."
ABC7's Pamela Tom: "They tell me KaBoom's usually pretty cool though."
Pat Kwan: "It is, usually a family event and usually it's pretty good."
And pretty crowded for those who live on the Embarcadero but they say if you live here, you have to expect visitors.
Sergio Mello, Bayside Villas resident: "We are used to it because we are right by the ball park so regular, big crowd events are common here."
