San Francisco Shuts Down Castro Halloween Party

Saturday, June 02, 2007

The annual Halloween street party, in the Castro District, has, literally, scared the city of San Francisco into shutting it down.

The decision to end the party that attracts thousands comes after nine people were shot at the event last year and four others were stabbed, in 2002.

The section of Market and Castro streets usually blocked off for the gathering will remain open to traffic this year.

No stages will be built, and no portable toilets will be provided. City officials are proposing that the event be moved to AT&T Park.
