Hit And Run Suspect Turns Himself In After Hitting Bicyclist In S.F.

Monday, June 18, 2007

A hit and run suspect surrendered to police overnight, after several people in San Francisco got involved in the case. It started shortly after 11:00 last night, when a driver coming off the Octavia Street ramp hit a bicyclist on Market Street.

A witness in a passing car got out and stopped the driver by grabbing his steering wheel. But the suspect's car fell on its side and pinned the witness down. Several bystanders helped free the pinned man by up righting the small car. That's when the hit and run suspect drove off again. Victoria Schaller, friend of witness: "My old man got out and grabbed his steering to make him stop. It flipped the car right on top of him and crushed his middle side. About five other witnesses came over and pushed the car up off of him. And then he took off anyways." Paramedics took the man who was pinned and the bicyclist to the hospital. The hit-and-run suspect drove to the Emeryville Police Department where he turned himself in. San Francisco officers were there to take him back to the city to face charges.
