SAN FRANCISCO Aug. 13, 2007 (KGO) (KGO) -- Starting today travelers to SFO have a new parking option. They can leave their cars at several Peninsula BART stations for a relative bargain but there's an added cost some people may want to factor in.
BART officials said they had extra spots at several of their stations so they decided to open those spaces to travelers headed to the airport. Starting today long term parking spots are available for $6 dollars a day at the Millbrae BART Station where there are 200 spots. South San Francisco, Colma and San Bruno there are 100 spots each. Parking at the airport averages about $13 dollars a day which is more then twice the amount that BART is offering.
Linton Johnson, BART Spokesperson: "What we are trying to do is have folks use these extra spots for $6 dollars a day, it will help pay the costs of the SFO extension. At the same time it will give a big discount to the folks who are going to SFO and back."
Travelers have been waiting for this low cost parking since BART officials first announced the possibility back in July. BART received its federal funding so now these spots are available. To access the parking you will need to go to to download a permit from BART's website. You can not just show up at a station and expect to get a permit because there is a limited amount of spaces.
Long term parking rates are:
SFO Long Term Parking$13/day
SFO International $20/day
Sky Park $13/day
Park SFO $13.95/day(Copyright ©2009 KGO-TV/DT. All Rights Reserved.)
