Aug. 30, 2007 (KGO) (KGO) -- Today will be another Spare The Air day. Bay Area residents are being urged to keep the car in the garage and take mass transit.
Parking in BART lots is also free. City buses and light rail will be free all day. This is the second Spare The Air day this year. Yesterday was the first.
Also state power officials are again asking us to conserve power again today. Demand is predicted to be even higher today than yesterday, when power grid managers declared a stage-one alert until 8:00 last night.
That's because power reserves dipped below seven percent. Power officials say the dry winter reduced the ability to produce hydro-electric power this summer, which normally provides 15-percent of our power supply.
Energy Tips:
Here are some of the things you can do around the house to conserve energy, if you haven't done them already.
- Set your air conditioner's thermostat to 78 degrees or higher.
- Turn off all unnecessary lights, and close your blinds to keep the sun out.
- Run major appliances in the morning or late evening, when energy demand is lowest.
