SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct. 2, 2007 (BCN) -- San Jose State University today announced a $4 million gift to the university's College of Engineering from alum Donald Beall, the former CEO of aerospace conglomerate Rockwell International.
The gift will be used to support multidisciplinary programs at the college in areas such as green engineering, biomedical device engineering, global experiential learning, business education for engineers, and professional development and practice for engineering students. The college's dean will now be known as the Don Beall Dean of Engineering in honor of the gift.
"Donald Beall believes strongly in the value of engineering and science education and its critical role in the innovation and entrepreneurial process leading to a stronger America," Don Beall Dean of Engineering Belle Wei said. "We are grateful for this gift, which will help us advance our vision to educate new engineers who are technically excellent, broadly educated, and socially responsible, the new kind of engineers who can rise to the challenges of the 21st century." Beall received his bachelor's degree in metallurgical engineering from SJSU in 1960. He spent 30 years with Rockwell, including 10 as company president and 10 as chairman and CEO before retiring in 1998. Rockwell, which built products ranging from the Apollo spacecraft to the Navstar Global Positioning System satellites, has since been broken up into a number of smaller companies and does not exist anymore.Sponsored Content
