Nov. 29, 2007 (KGO) (KGO) -- A brawl between two Contra Costa High School girls basketball teams was caught on tape and questions are being raised about the parents. Some parents actually left the stands and went out onto the court during the incident.
Watch raw video of brawl below.
The Alhambra Bulldogs were leading the Pittsburg Pirates 55 to 37 with 4 minutes and 30 seconds left in the game. Students admitted that it was a very physical game.
"It was tense throughout the whole game. It was going back and forth. Words were being exchanged and stuff," says Casey Cox, Alhambra High senior.
The home video appears to show an Alhambra High player punching her opponent just before the fight.
"I witnessed a young lady from Pittsburg being uppercut in the face and a traveling call was called on her instead of a foul," said one witness.
Another Pittsburg player complained to the referee to no avail. Later in the game, players went after a loose ball and both benches cleared out and the brawl began.
Willie Moffett Jr. shot the video tape and said "the Alhambra bench cleared first. Then the Pittsburg bench. Then the Alhambra parents cleared the stands."
The video shows at least four people running from the stands onto the court. Moffett is sure they were from Alhambra.
"Being the president of the boosters club, I know all the parents who go to the games."
Some people believe the adults were only trying to protect their daughters who were on the team. Alhambra High School Principal Sue Mirkovich says she has spoken to both parents and players.
"I'm ashamed. I'm upset. It's not what Alhambra and Pittsburg High School stands for," says Mirkovich.
Mirkovich will also see the video before deciding how she will handle the incident.
There is a silver lining in this however. It reminds students and parents why we play the game -- it's for the love of the game and sometimes we lose sight of that.
