Decision not to euthanize haunts zoo

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- San Francisco Zoo officials tell ABC7 they never considered putting Tatiana, the tiger, down after last year's attack on a trainer.

ABC7's legal analyst, Dean Johnson, says the zoo's decision not to euthanize the animal could come back to haunt them.

"Lawyers have a phrase that means the events speak for themselves. Here we have a tiger who has a prior history of assault on humans roaming the zoo... and certainly the victims of this tiger when they get to court will say the events speak for themselves," explains Johnson.

Cal-OSHA fined the zoo $18,000 after last year's mauling for violating state safety training laws.
