Hikers find human skull in Big Sur

Tuesday, March 11, 2008

The Monterey County Sheriff's Office announced today that hikers found a partial human skull on Sunday on a hillside below the Bixby Creek Bridge in the Big Sur area.

Authorities searched the surrounding area but no further human remains were found. There are no obvious areas of trauma on the skull and investigators believe the death occurred in the last few months, according to the sheriff's office.

The skull has been sent to the University of California, Santa Cruz where researchers will try and determine the age, race and sex of the victim.
