Masked men rob Benicia bank

Friday, August 01, 2008

Benicia police said two masked and armed suspects robbed the US Bank in the Southampton Shopping Center Thursday morning.

Police said the heist happened at 9:40 a.m. on 848 Southampton Road. The suspects with handguns ordered employees and two customers to the ground. One suspect hopped a bank counter and took money from the teller drawers.

The robbers fled in a waiting vehicle driven by a third suspect, police said. The vehicle, a light colored four-door sedan, was last seen heading south on West 7th Street. Police said they have no other descriptions of the suspects.

This is the second bank robbery in Benicia this year. The Umpqua bank was robbed on March 27.
