Boy wants people to pass extra food to hungry

Wednesday, August 24, 2011

A 9th grade boy is on a mission to end the hunger crisis in the South Bay. Kiran Sridhar created the non-profit Waste No Food to let people pass on their excess food to the hungry.

Waste No Food pairs restaurants like "Dio Deka" in Los Gatos with organizations that are looking for donations.

The 13-year-old says he began creating the non-profit two-years ago and says the whole idea is to make a difference.

"One-third of all food in California is wasted, yet at the same time 11 million people in California are food insecure, they do not know where to get their next meal," said Sridhar.

Waste No Food works with closely with non-profit InnVision to vet the groups looking for food donations.
