Here are various events taking place in the San Francisco Bay Area for Veterans Day.
Various Events Going On In Honor Of Veterans Day
9 a.m. Eleven trees will be planted in front of building 100 at The Palo Alto Veterans Center in honor of Veterans Day. Veterans, volunteers with the group canopy and Palo Alto Mayor Sid Espinosa will help out.

9 a.m. VIP reception prior to San Jose's 93rd Annual Veterans Day Parade (which starts at noon following an 11 a.m. ceremony near the Tech Museum).

9 a.m. The Mare Island Shoreline Heritage Preserve will open an hour earlier to accommodate a 9 a.m. veterans day memorial service planned in the cemetery.

9 a.m. Rep. Jerry McNerny, D-Pleasanton, Alameda County Supervisor Scott Haggerty, wounded warrior project ambassador William Hansen and Safeway executives will hold a special ceremony honoring veterans and launching Safeway's nationwide fundraiser for the Wounded Warrior Project.

9:30 a.m. Memorial Grove dedication to kick off Veterans Day events planned at the Napa Valley Veterans Home, the largest such home in the United States. The events are organized by roots of peace and the Napa Valley Film Festival. Today's events also include a 6 p.m. fundraising gala called "Mines To Vines" aimed at removing land mines throughout the world. The gala will be at the Meadowood Resort, 900 Meadowood Lane, St. Helena.

9:45 a.m. Rep. Jackie Speier, D-San Mateo/San Francisco, will address veterans and help prepare sandwiches for homeless and disabled veterans at an event organized by swords to plowshares and the Presidio Trust.

10 a.m. Veterans Day celebration at the Children's Discovery Museum. Children will make flags and thank-you cards to give veterans.

10:30 a.m. Program honoring military veterans, including a "Special Tribute To Today's Warriors." includes a keynote speech by USMC Maj. Robert Dyer, a veteran of both the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts.

11 a.m. Ceremony to begin San Jose's Veterans Day Parade. San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed is scheduled to speak. Parade begins at noon. Reviewing stand near the San Jose Tech Museum, Park Avenue and South Market Street, San Jose.

11 a.m. The French Consul General in San Francisco will honor four World War II veterans who fought in France with the Legion Of Honor, the most prestigious decoration in France.

11 a.m. The Walt Disney Family Museum will present nine animated cartoons created by Walt Disney to support America during World War II.

11 a.m. The 92nd Annual San Francisco Veterans Day Parade commemorating the ending of World War I on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918. In recognition of the end of the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy this year, the San Francisco Lesbian/Gay Freedom Band will march as the honorary lead contingent.
Location: Parade starts at Market and Montgomery streets and continues up Market Street to a reviewing stand across from San Francisco City Hall, 1 Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place, San Francisco
11 a.m. Combined United States and Great Britain Veterans Day/Remembrance Day Ceremony aboard the USS Hornet Museum.
Location: 707 W. Hornet Ave., Pier 3, Alameda
11 a.m. Veterans memorial day event sponsored by the Alameda County Veterans Affairs Commission. Includes a keynote speech by Douglass Bragg, newly appointed regional veterans affairs director for Northern California. State Sen. Ellen Corbett, D-San Leandro, will also attend.

11 a.m. Annual Veterans Day program at the Cupertino Veterans Memorial. This year's program includes the American Veterans Traveling Tribute, a traveling Vietnam wall memorial that will be on display in Cupertino until Sunday. Also includes unveiling of the Vietnam Memorial Boulder.

11 a.m. Walnut Creek Veterans Day program. The program will Include special emphasis on civil war stories. Mayor Cindy Silva will speak.

11 a.m. Veterans Day Ceremony sponsored by the Korean War Veterans Association Mount Diablo Chapter and Veterans Of Foreign Wars Post 1525. Includes an 11:30 a.m. flyover of two T-38 military jets to honor pilots of all wars.

11 a.m. Color guard flag ceremony to kick off a Veterans Day program and the re-launch of the restored USS Red Oak Victory ship, originally built at the Kaiser Shipyard in Richmond in 1944.

12:15 p.m. Wells Fargo Post-Parade Veterans Event for Iraq and Afghanistan War Veterans. Note: Media only allowed noon to 1:30 p.m.

3 p.m. Veterans Day Ceremony at the Santa Clara Veterans Memorial. Includes a talk by Staff Sgt. Denny Weisgerber, Usmc (Ret.), Navy Cross and Purple Heart recipient.

5 p.m. Veterans Day vigil at the Crosses of Lafayette to express grief over the loss of life in Iraq and Afghanistan. Other sponsors include the Mt. Diablo Peace & Justice Center, The Lamorinda Peace & Justice Group and the Buddhist peace fellowship.
