Here are some events and parades scheduled for Veterans Day 2013.

11 a.m. Veterans Day ceremony aboard the USS Hornet, including a traditional wreath tossing over the fantail. USS Hornet museum, 707 W. Hornet Ave., Pier 3, Alameda.

11 a.m. Veterans Day program at Castro Valley Veterans Memorial. Community Park, 18988 Lake Chabot Road, Castro Valley.

11 a.m. Opening ceremony for San Jose's 95th Annual Veterans Day parade, which begins at noon at Delmas Street near the SAP Center. Ceremony at Plaza De Cesar Chavez, Park Avenue and South Market Street, San Jose

11 a.m. Walnut Creek Veterans Day Ceremony. Lesher Center for the Arts, 1601 Civic Drive, Walnut Creek

11 a.m. San Leandro's 62nd Annual Veterans Day Observance. This year's event will honor resident Margaret Edmund, a World War II nurse who passed away in April at 100-years-old. San Leandro Community Center, 13909 E. 14th St., San Leandro

11 a.m. Veterans Day program sponsored by the Vietnam veterans of Diablo Valley and other organizations. Performing Arts Center, San Ramon Valley High School, 501 Danville Blvd. Danville

11 a.m. Alameda County Veterans Day Ceremony. Rotunda, City Hall, 777 B St., Hayward

11 a.m. Gilroy Veterans Day ceremony. Veterans Building, 74 W. Sixth St., Gilroy

11 a.m. Veterans Day cruise aboard the USS Potomac. A Two-and-a-half-hour bay cruise to view the Alameda Naval Station, the USS Hornet, the Jeremiah O'Brien and the submarine Pampanito. USS Potamac, 540 Water St., Oakland

11 a.m. Pinole Historical Society's Veterans Day Memorial. Fernandez Park, Buena Vista Drive and Tennent Avenue, Pinole

Noon Ribbon-cutting ceremony for Copperfield's books. Members Of the San Rafael city council to attend. 850 Fourth St., San Rafael

12:30 p.m. "The Art of Resistance," an exhibition featuring more than 70 social justice art activists in connection with the Bay Area visit of the Greenpeace ship "The Rainbow Warrior." Pier 15, 698 the Embarcadero, San Francisco.

1 p.m. Petaluma Veterans Day parade and flyover. Fourth and D streets, Petaluma

1 p.m. Veterans Day program by the Napa Valley Film Festival. Includes 4 p.m. screening of "The Hornet's Nest," a film following journalist Michael Boettcher and his son Carlos kindling their relationship while embedded with troops in Afghanistan. Lincoln Theater, 100 California Drive, Yountville

4 p.m. Inaugural San Francisco National Veterans Day run and family walk. Proceeds to benefit the Folds of Honor Foundation. Bandshell, Music Concourse Drive, Golden Gate Park, San Francisco

4 p.m. A group of Petaluma instrumentalists will be the first wave in what's billed as an attempt to set a world record for playing the star spangled banner on the 200th anniversary of the patriotic tune. Veterans building parking lot, 1094 Petaluma Blvd., Petaluma

5:30 p.m. Veterans Day vigil at the crosses of Lafayette. Deer Hill and Oak Hill Roads, Lafayette

7 p.m. Screening of "Ruth Asawa: roots of an artist," a documentary on San Francisco artist Ruth Asawa's work. Aquarium of the Bay Theater, Pier 39, San Francisco.
