The outage began at about 6:40 p.m. BART trains were able to pass through the station and a bus bridge was set up to transport affected commuters.
Pacific Gas & Electric spokesman J.D. Guidi said the outage initially affected 7,075 customers in Hayward and Union City but that, aside from the station, all customers had power restored by about 7:40 p.m.
He said the outage was caused by underground equipment failure near the BART station.
