Peace rally held afer Richmond gang rape

RICHMOND, CA (KGO) -- As many as 200 people held a peace march and rally in Richmond Saturday two weeks after a 16-year-old girl was gang raped outside her school's homecoming dance.

Concerned community members gathered at Richmond High School Saturday morning where the girl was attacked. Organizers hope events like this are a call to action to prevent horrible crimes like this from happening again in the city.

"Just to make a statement about people being empowered to take action on their own and to come together for a rally just to empower the community and society, and offer them resources, and just love," said organizer Elecia Holland.

"It doesn't take a corporation to make a change," said organizer Kiki Poe. "We can do it ourselves. And, the community comes together. Just put it out there."

Six suspects have been charged in the case with a variety of crimes, including rape. Three of them are under 18 but they are being charged as adults.
