Oakland police are continuing to investigate a shooting Thursday afternoon that left a juvenile critically injured, a police sergeant said.

Officers in the area of 24th and Adeline streets heard shots fired in the area at about 5 p.m. and discovered an apparent gunshot victim, Oakland police Sgt. Chris Bolton said.

The juvenile victim was transported to Children's Hospital in Oakland, where he is listed in critical condition.

An associate of the victim, also a juvenile, is in custody for firearm possession, Bolton said.
