Police arrest suspect in fatal stabbing

SAN LEANDRO, Calif. (KGO) -- Police have arrested a suspect who allegedly murdered a young woman in her driveway.

The suspect, 25-year-old Edgar Alfonso Vasquez, was arrested early Saturday morning after an hours-long standoff with police.

The victim was found stabbed to death in her car in the driveway of a home on Best Avenue on Friday.

Detectives located the suspect's vehicle around the corner of his residence late Friday and ordered him to come outside.

He did not respond and after several hours the SWAT Team entered the residence and forcibly took him into custody.

Police believe the suspect and victim had been dating, but they still haven't established a motive. The victim's name isn't being released, but police say she was in her early 20s.
