HAYWARD, Calif. -- On the two-year anniversary of the violent death of a longtime U.S. Postal Service worker in Hayward, authorities today are asking for the public's help and offering a $100,000 reward for any information that might solve the case.
Nancy Rogers, 61, was found dead in a dump in San Leandro at about 8 a.m. on June 14, 2010, after her co-workers at the post office at 24438 Santa Clara St. in Hayward reported her missing.
Rogers worked as a mail clerk and came to work at 1 a.m. that day but went missing at some point during her shift. Investigators determined a large trash bin at the office had recently been emptied and eventually found her at the San Leandro dump, according to the postal service.
Authorities are still not releasing how Rogers died because of the ongoing investigation, but an autopsy on her body determined that the death was a homicide, Hayward police said.
U.S. Postal Inspector Jeff Fitch said on today's two-year anniversary of Rogers' death, investigators from the postal service and Hayward police are hoping someone will come forward with new information about the case.
The postal service has put up the $100,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in connection with the death, Fitch said.
"This has always been one of our high-priority cases," he said. "It's not a cold case at all."
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the U.S. Postal Inspection Service at (877) 876-2455 and select option 2, or call the Hayward Police Department's Crime Stoppers line at (510) 293-7197.
