The man suspected of killing a retired schoolteacher in Hercules appeared in court in Richmond Thursday morning.

Darnell Keith Washington is facing numerous charges including robbery, burglary and carjacking.

Police say he and his wife Tanya murdered 55-year-old Susie Ko at her home last month and stole her car.

Tanya still faces extradition from Washington where the couple was arrested following a crime spree. Authorities say they were involved in a jailbreak and shooting at a sheriff's deputy.

The couple faces nine felony counts and is not eligible for bail.
