SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- 100 homeless veterans from St. Anthony's in the Tenderloin took part in San Francisco's Veterans Day parade. This year, for the first time, the parade began with hundreds of veterans on motorcycles.
San Francisco's 93rd Veterans Day Parade started at 11 a.m. Sunday and made its way down Market Street. Organizers said this year's parade honors all soldiers, but especially those who fought in Afghanistan and Iraq.
"The most important veterans are the 10 percent who face the enemy eyeball to eyeball," said parade coordinator Wallace Levin. "They are the real heroes and of course the one million that have been killed in our wars. They're the real heroes."
Nearly 1,000 veterans were expected to attend the parade.
