OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) -- It's an annual tradition in Oakland that almost didn't happen this year, the huge Thanksgiving meal the city and other organizations put on for those in need.
In Oakland Tuesday, the city and the Golden State Warriors teamed up to serve 2,000 people a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. The annual event was in jeopardy this year due to lack of funding until Warrior forward David Lee stepped up with a $25,000 donation.
"To be able to make a positive contribution to the Bay Area is something I was happy to do and it worked out great," Lee said.
Besides this meal, donations are being collected to provide brown bags of food to families in need this holiday and throughout the year. A $12 donation pays for a bag that will provide more than a dozen meals.
