LIVERMORE, Calif. (KGO) -- Livermore police are looking the owner of an injured dog that was found suffering from a severe leg wound.
Officers responded to a call about an injured dog Monday morning in the Springtown area at the corner of Red Fir Way and Monterey Drive.
When they arrived on scene, they discovered a young German shepherd with a left leg that had sustained a compound fracture. The injury was several weeks old. Officials say the leg, which was severely mangled with exposed bones and infected dead tissue, had an old bandage that had worn off. They say it appears as though the owner attempted to repair the injury at home, denying the animal veterinary treatment.
The dog, named Roky, was taken to Adobe Veterinary Hospital in Livermore where he was stabilized. The Tri-Valley Animal Rescue (TVAR), which has a "Cinderella Fund" in place to help pay for expensive medical treatments, agreed to pay for the surgery, which will be provided by Bishop Ranch Veterinary Hospital at a greatly reduced fee.
TVAR contacted the Bay Area German Shepherd Rescue who then placed Roky in a loving foster home.
Officials released a photo of the young dog and the leather collar he was wearing when they found him.
Police are urging anyone with information about the dog owner to call Livermore Animal Control at 925-371-4848 or contact them online here.
