Independent truckers continue strike at Port of Oakland

Tuesday, August 20, 2013

Independent truckers continued their strike at the Port of Oakland Tuesday morning.

The truckers protested long wait times to enter the port for a second day in a row.

They say they're paid for the number of trips they make, so the delays cut into their earnings.

"There are times when we have to go in and we wait for like almost five to six hours to just pull out one load. Theres a lot of restrictions inside the port, too. How do you expect us to sit inside the truck for six hours and not get out," trucker Sukhdeep Singh said.

The picketers blocked the entrance to the port. Later in the morning, the truckers met with terminal operators about their concerns.

The truckers will decide Tuesday afternoon if they will continue their strike on Wednesday.

This is the third labor dispute at the Port of Oakland since July.
