There are new details about the BART police sergeant killed last month. Sgt. Tom Smith reportedly had asked his superiors to assign the SWAT team to high-risk searches.

Smith was shot and killed by a fellow BART officer during a search of a Dublin apartment.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Smith requested help from the SWAT team on several occasions, but was always turned down. There is no indication Smith made such a request before the fatal search.

Members of the SWAT team receive specialized training on making high-risk entries into buildings.
